10 California Centers Magazine | May 2018 C C B egun in Southern California in 1971, Turner 's Outdoorsman has become a leading special- ty store in its category of retail. Over that time, the chain has grown to 21 stores positioned in cities populated with hunting, fishing and shooting fans. That's 47 years of dedication to becoming the choice neighborhood destination for lots of loyal custom- ers. The first Turner 's Outdoorsman was opened in Long Beach, Califor- nia with the primary purpose being to stock firearms and ammunition to support a growing fascination the public had for hunting and sport shooting. The store prided itself on its expert sales associates and es- tablished relationships with leading manufacturers, which resulted in a reputation for exceptional service and local notoriety unmatched in the industry. This remains the case today, with novices and seasoned en- thusiasts alike seeking out their local Turner 's Outdoorsman for a wide assortment of hunting accessories to outfit them for trips to the backcoun- try, fields or duck blinds. Pre-planning is an essential step in the successful outcome of a hunting or fishing excursion. Turner 's Out- doorsman's mission is simply to pro- vide the necessary merchandise cus- tomers seek, at the best prices in the marketplace, and to provide superior service to purchasers of the merchan- dise, with the end result being the support and promotion of the many positive aspects of the local hunting and fishing communities. The company distinguishes itself from national chain stores by taking an active role in the communities as well. Examples include promoting local youth fishing tournaments, con- ducting hunting and fishing semi- nars, hosting hands-on shooting fairs (in fact, the largest in the state), and working closely with organizations such as the NRA, Safari Club Interna- tional, Ducks Unlimited, California Waterfowl Association, and United Anglers. The chain also supports ef- forts aimed at helping preserve and protect hunting and fishing resources and activities in California. The com- pany's marketing materials often en- courage new customers to visit their nearby Turner 's Outdoorsman store, and are confident that they will enjoy the experience. The fishing department at Turner 's Outdoorsman consists of the finest rods and reels in every price cate- gory, from all of the major brands. There's also rod & reel combos, baits and lures, terminal tackle and a mul- titude of fishing accessories to fuel the passion. Seasoned fishing profes- sionals are on hand to offer advice on Turner's Outdoorsman launched in Long Beach in 1971. Today, the company has 21 stores in California.
