6 California Centers Magazine | March 2018 C C A mong the more exciting and eagerly anticipated retail events for shoppers in Los An- geles and surrounding counties re- cently was the grand opening of six new Bob's Discount Furniture stores that formally took place in mid-Feb- ruary (a few locations had "soft" openings the week before). The event marks the company's first foray into the West Coast marketplace for this chain, which now boasts a roster of 98 stores opened in 15 states, pri- marily focused on the East Coast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions of the U.S. The company also has 18 outlet store locations in 11 states. In Southern California, the new desti- nation home furnishings stores are positioned to serve communities in the surrounding environs of Baldwin Park, Huntington Beach, mid-town Los Angeles, Long Beach, West Hills and Valencia. The latest growth tra- jectory is in keeping with the com- pany's ongoing expansion strategy, which saw the addition of more than 12 new stores added to the lineup in 2017. If its first weeks' customer traffic figures are any indication, Bob's Dis- count Furniture has hit the mark with regard to the needs, preferences and tastes of home furniture and décor customers in Southern California. Parking lots are full, the showroom floors bustling with shoppers, and sales figures continue to exceed ex- pectations. So just what is it that has customers choosing Bob's Discount Furniture over the competition? The company's targeted marketing efforts leading up to the latest store open- ings likely played a significant role in generating sufficient interest among potential new clients. A multitude of radio ad spots, supported by print and visual media in the months lead- ing up to the "big day," made it feel like one would miss out significant- ly were they to not pay a visit to the latest entrant in the home décor and furnishings category. In 1991, Bob's Discount Furniture's founders, Bob Kaufman and Gene Rosenberg, set out to provide qual- ity furniture at a price everyone can afford, in a fun and haggle-free en- vironment. President Emeritus and Co-founder Bob Kaufman opened his first discount furniture store in New- ington, Connecticut, on the principle of providing unsurpassed value with honesty and integrity. It's called "the Bob's way," and it continues to set the tone for the company's principles of operation, impacting everything the company does. The stores take pride in keeping to a promise of "no phony sales, no phony gimmicks, just the competition busting untouchable furniture value you deserve, every single day!"
