2 California Centers Magazine | January/February 2018 Retail and Industrial O n January 23, California Cen- ters, along with our sister publications Shopping Center Business and Western Real Estate Busi- ness, hosted The Intersection of Retail and Industrial in the Inland Empire at the Moreno Valley Civic Center. We had more than 250 people attend, and the content was pointed to the con- vergence of retail and industrial. Retailers don't need as much space as they once did, and many need more industrial space to fulfill e-commerce needs and pro- vide inventory-on-demand to stores. Where better could that needed storage space be than obsolete retail space? The locations are there; the loading docks are there, and the real estate needs little renovation to convert it. In the Inland Em- pire, this is already happening. The cities and counties there are also actively on top of this trend, researching locations and helping retailers with spaces. Retail is changing, and California Centers is staying on top of the trends. In this issue, in preparation for the upcoming ICSC Southern California Idea Exchange, we feature an arti- cle on the changing retail scene in Los Angeles. Redevelop- ments, new developments and new mixed-use projects are dotting the landscape there. Two of the area's super-region- al centers are undergoing massive renovations. Food and entertainment are also playing a predominant role. See the article on page 14. Also in this issue, we feature an article on Majestic Re- alty's Mountain Grove center in Redlands. The center has seen success by offering retail and entertainment that brings new offerings to the market. See the article on page 10. We will be at several shows in California with this issue, so please look for California Centers at industry events in February. Please let us know if you have articles or news for Califor- nia Centers; we're looking to feature some great properties and retailers for our May issue, which will be distributed at ICSC RECon in Las Vegas.
