16 California Centers Magazine | August 2016 C C All of the pops can be dipped, half- dipped or drizzled, with the "dip" choices including premium dark chocolate, white chocolate, milk choc- olate, mint dark chocolate or caramel dark chocolate. Then they can then be dipped or half-dipped in "Poppings," among which are chopped almonds, crushed hazelnuts, pistachios, cara- mel corn, shredded coconut, choco- late sprinkles or crushed waffle cone. Popbar customers can also purchase Popaccino drinks (in caramel or cof- fee blends), frozen hot chocolate on a stick, or an ultimate double shake (featuring two flavors of popbars blended). The shops also have cater- ing options of multi-pack miniPops (a size having five to six bites per pop); popbars, or popBites to go. Additional merchandise, available for purchase at the stores and online, includes their exclusively designed tea sticks and jarred nut spreads. Popbar has evolved into an interna- tional brand, with multiple locations opened in four different countries, and growing. The concept presents products having timeless appeal that cater to all demographics. The com- pany's future plans involve a com- bination of multi-unit operators in select markets and area development candidates, committing to opening three or more locations in occupying a designated region. The brand's fran- chising advantages include simple operations, low cost of goods and fast customer transaction times, unique to the product and store design. There are presently 10-plus Popbar shops operating in locations in Cali- fornia, Florida, New York, Mexico and Canada. Internationally, the brand has a presence in Indonesia, Japan, Rus- sia and South Korea. In July 2016, the company held a grand opening for a new shop in the South Bay region of Los Angeles, in Del Amo Fashion Cen- ter. Stated a Popbar representative, "The Del Amo Fashion Center is one of the five largest malls in the country. It's a landmark in Southern California and with its recent multi-million dol- lar renovation, it just felt right to open a standout concept like Popbar here." In the coming months, the chain is due to occupy sites in Miami Beach, Costa Mesa and Sacramento, among others. The concept typically seeks out 600 to 1,000 square feet of space (for full size shops, with seating) in enclosed regional malls, communi- ty strip centers, lifestyle centers and downtown central business districts. The brand is open to a variety of co- tenant possibilities, but ideally will have an exclusive on the category of frozen desserts. For in-line shops and kiosk locations, sites below 600 square feet will also be considered.
